Latin Lawyer is delighted to present this one-day conference on the issues facing lawyers in Latin America’s oil and gas industry. The event will be held on Tuesday, 14 May 2019 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

10.15: LNG in the Americas (and beyond) 

The panel will update attendees on the status of liquefaction and regasification throughout the Americas, including the status of new projects, anticipated demand for LNG within the Americas and in traditional markets. We will discuss financings of these projects, anticipated supply and demand, and gas to power projects.

11.15: Coffee break

11.40: Lessons and ideas in compliance across the region

This panel will focus on the latest trends regarding the development of best practices in compliance across the region and updates on relevant cases, legislation or initiatives related to compliance in connection with oil and gas, in Latin America. This will include lessons learned from Operation Car Wash in Brazil as well as Petrobras’ new contracting process, effects of compliance issues on the oil and gas industry, including valuation of assets and structures of transactions, as well as business opportunities created by sales of assets involved in compliance matters.

13.00: Financing energy projects in Latin America

The panel will examine the latest trends in the financing of oil and gas and energy projects across the region. Are there now more resources going to finance LNG facilities and energy generation projects with renewable sources? What kind of guarantees are currently being requested by financiers?

14.00: Networking lunch kindly hosted by Martinez de Hoz & Rueda

15.00: Regime changes and national oil companies (NOCs) 

Continued political and economic shifts in Latin America have changed the paradigm under which oil and gas activities are developed, with a clear impact on NOCs, in some countries strengthened by the new administrations. Upon closing an active year, under a setting of political change, the region will continue to foster legal reforms aimed at regulating the participation of private parties, while at the same time promoting growth and encouraging investment in infrastructure.

16.30: The last frontier in oil exploration

This panel will explore E&P developments across the region, including the offshore bid in Argentina and insights into other new bidding rounds elsewhere. Also: what’s the latest with Vaca Muerta? What lessons have been learned so far? And what opportunities and challenges are presented by AMLO’s government in Mexico?
