IDRI is much more than an association of dispute resolvers. It is a robust service provider and a centre of excellence that is committed to the highest ethical standards, moral probity and promotion of transparency in all its services. IDRI operates an open-door policy in its membership.

IDRI’s principal objectives are, inter-alia:

To establish and maintain a body or an institute for persons and organisations concerned with and interested in the art of arbitration, alternative dispute resolution [ADR], peace & conflict management, and general dispute resolution mechanisms, as a means of settlement of disputes whether local, national or international and to promote the development and sustenance of arbitration & ADR culture and practice, peace & conflict management practice, global justice & peace programme and general dispute resolution practice.
To establish and maintain an institute for the benefit and education of the general public and interested parties, and to study and carry out purposeful innovative research, promote, establish, and administer procedures for the resolution of disputes of all kinds. To cooperate and work with the United Nations and its agencies, the national, regional and continental bodies and their agencies, particularly those involved in and/or interested in the development, growth and sustenance of arbitration, mediation, conciliation, negotiation, peace and conflict management, world peace and justice, and general dispute resolution mechanisms.

Event Schedule

This great event celebrates the remarkable contributions of the United Nations and UNCITRAL in the area of international trade law, modernization and harmonization of fair international business rules and laws in most jurisdictions [at present 157 nations] of the world.

The conference aims to deepen African’s economic and business relations with the world and international partners, highlighting its role as a key player in Africa on matters concerning commercial arbitration & the global economy.

The conference will deal with vital issues such as: encouragement of free movement in trade and investments, attraction of Foreign Direct Investment [FDI], facilitating and strengthening of cross border contracts, Use Of Arbitration & ADR In Resolving Disputes In The Financial Sector, Incentives To Reducing Risk Of Investing In Emerging Markets And Developing Countries, Electronic Settlement of Trade Disputes, Diplomatic Missions As Engines for Foreign Direct Investments [FDI] In Africa, Accelerating Intra-Africa Trade & Investment, etc.

Event Schedule

The International Dispute Resolution Institute [IDRI] in collaboration with Arbitration And Alternative Dispute Resolution [ADR] In Africa will offer unique intensive programmes for selected participants to be Professional Arbitrators, Mediators and ADR Practitioners – Accredited Members of IDRI.

Within the scope of these international programmes, the following topics, inter alia, would be taught: Arbitral Awards & ADR Terms Of Settlement; Fundamentals Of Negotiation; Negotiation Techniques; Culture & Ethics In Negotiation; Mock Trials & Role Plays; Writing Awards & Terms of Settlement; Recognition & Enforcement Of Awards; Role Of Law Courts & Multi-Door Court Houses; Mediation And Other ADR Processes; Maritime, Oil & Gas Arbitration and ADR; Mediation In Banking & Financial Institutions Disputes; Mediation in Election & Political Disputes; Developing ADR Department In Organisations; Investment & Construction Arbitration; ADR In Tax Disputes, ADR In Property & Real Estate Disputes; Multiparty & Multi-Contract Arbitration, ADR In Criminal Matters, Use of ADR In Reforming the Criminal Justice System: Plea Bargaining, Restorative v Retributive Justice; Sentencing, Jail Terms And Non-Custodial Alternatives, Victims of Crime And Restitution; ADR In Pre-trial Conference And Case Management, etc.
These programmes do not require any prior knowledge of the law and in fact Arbitration & ADR are not the preserve of lawyers. Any person with tertiary education is well qualified to attend.
