ICC YAF Workshop – Introduction to Commercial Arbitration and Mediation
This “beginners'” workshop is designed to introduce participants to key concepts and procedures in commercial arbitration and mediation.
The objective of this workshop is to inspire young practitioners to consider building a career in arbitration and mediation and, at the same time, to provide a detailed overview of the arbitration and mediation processes. Facilitators will focus on explaining key concepts and providing young practitioners guidance on what to do when (a) drafting and/ vetting contracts; (b) providing dispute management advice & guidance to clients; and (c) representing clients or presiding over a dispute (as mediator or arbitrator).
Who should attend:
This conference is aimed at young arbitration practitioners of approximately 40 years or under (yet, everyone interested in the subject is welcome): counsel, arbitrators, corporate counsel or academics. The ICC YAF Conference is an ideal forum for young practitioners to exchange thoughts on international arbitration and to enrich their network in the region.
Session 1: Introduction to Commercial Arbitration, The Arbitration Agreement
Session 2: The Arbitral Tribunal
Session 3: Procedural Matters and the Arbitral Award
Lunch and Networking
Session 4: Principles of Mediation, Mediation Procedures, The Role of Counsel and Representatives
Session 5: The Role of the Mediator, Basic Skills and Ethical Issues
Each session will be 45-minute long broken down as follows:
(i) Lecture/Presentation – 15 minutes
(ii) Practical exercise/role-play. – 15 minutes
(iii) Feedback/ Q&A -15 minutes
