34th Annual ICC SIA QMC Joint Symposium of Arbitrators
This year’s 34th Annual Joint Symposium of Arbitrators will focus on the topic of “Opening Up” Awards in International Arbitration.
Co-organised by the School of International Arbitration (SIA), a centre of excellence in research and teaching of international arbitration and part of the Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) in the School of Law at Queen Mary, University of London, the 34th edition of the Joint Symposium will be hosted by ICC Institute of World Business Law at ICC Global Headquarters in Paris.
09:30 – 09:45 Welcome address 09:45-11:00 Ground for revision: procedural fraud This session will focus on the procedural fraud as a ground for revising an award from the civil law, the common law and the investment arbitration perspectives. 11:00-11:15 Coffee break 11:15-12:45 Grounds for revision: new facts, evidence or law (including evidentiary issues) This session will focus on other grounds for revising an award i.e. new material facts or decisive evidence or law from the civil law, the common law and investment arbitration perspectives. 12:45-14:30 Lunch 14:30-15:45 Revision of awards and competent forum The competent forum for revising awards is the arbitral tribunal (the original or a reconstituted one) directly, or following a decision of the Court of the seat in specific or setting-aside proceedings. 15:45-16:00 Coffee break 16:00-17:15 Types of arbitral awards and extent of revision This session will deal with the extent of revising the awards (dispositive part and/or reasoning sections) by the arbitral tribunal, due regard being given to the type of awards (partial, interim, final) and res judicata. 17:15-17:30 Conclusion 17:30-18:30 Cocktail reception
