The CEO of Newton Arbitration had the opportunity to interview Dana C. MacGrath at the recent ICC conference in New York (see video on the Newton Arbitration platform). Dana is not only personable, articulate and a perfectionist; she is also scary bright.
Dana is a member of the international arbitration practice at Sidley Austin LLP based in New York. Dana has a broad range of experience in international arbitration and litigation in aid of arbitration. Recently she has represented parties in arbitrations relating to the oil and gas industry, the licensing of standard essential patent portfolios and financial investments. Dana has also represented parties in U.S. courts regarding the enforceability of arbitration agreements and arbitral awards under the New York Convention. She also serves as an arbitrator.
Dana has been recognized as a leading practitioner of international arbitration in various directories, including Chambers USA, Who’s Who Legal: Arbitration, Latinvex in “Latin America’s Top 100 Female Lawyers” and Expert Guides’ Guide to the World’s Leading Experts in Commercial Arbitration.
Dana is President of the Board of Directors of Arbitral Women, an international non-profit organization that promotes women and diversity in international dispute resolution. She is chair of the Arbitration Rules Revision Committee of the Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR Institute) that updated the 2018 CPR Non-Administered Arbitration Rules (both international and domestic rules). She is the immediate former Chair of the Arbitration Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York (September 2015 – June 2018).
Dana is an adjunct professor of law at Brooklyn Law School and coaches the Brooklyn Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot team.
